Rate OBD II Scanners V70-XC70 1998

I've found sites selling inexpensive OBD II scanners -- and a couple mentioned here. There's one at www.obddiagnostics.com and another at www.obd-2.com.

Anyone able to make recommendations on these or any others in the $100 USD price range?

H Cameron

I've got the one from OBD-2. It's been invaluable for all 3 of my Volvos (97 850, 99 XC, 99 S80 T6) The software can be a little confusing until you use it a bit but it generally works OK. It gives you the code # and the english that goes with it so there is no need for other ref material. You can record the ECU output during a drive around the block and play it back for diagnosis. I've also Email these files to others for their review of the data. It will reset the check engine light and the service light. It's paid for it's self with me.

I am also interested in getting an OBDII scanner code reader. I have visited several web sites and have come to the conclusion that it would be better for me to go with one of the software versions that run on PC's. The information you get appears to be of more value than what I have seen with the handheld units. Also there is the benefit of downloading upgrades. The question is which is the best software to buy for this purpose. More suggestions please!

Hi, I have a UK RHD 850 2.5 CD. I bought an ISO only scanner and software from OBD-2 and have not yet got it to work. I have tried everything so far. It may be my laptop, I haven't borrowed one yet to try it out. Technical back-up is poor from OBD-2. I've had 1 of 3 e-mails answered. If I get it to go I'll post here.

Tek.

What year is your 850? If it's 1995 or older then it won't work anyway as these are not OBD-2 compliant.

You need at least a 1996 or newer car.

I find that the www.obd-2.com software works fine on my 2000 S40 (as well as on my Elise S2).

What settings are you using?

Bye, Arno.
