Late 850 or Early S70?

Flipping through some of the threads here has indicated to me that the 850 can be very expensive to maintain.

Has Volvo improved at all with the S70?

I'm thinking of switching up my Corolla for one of these models and am worried about maintenance costs comparitavely.

Thanks for everyone's advice so far.

    850 or S70? ... Maintenance cost estimate debate !!!

By necessity, we drive older Volvos.

That said, I would reccomend that you budget about 15% of the purchase price of your used Volvo for expenses. This includes all repairs, wear items, tires, and do-dads. Do not reduce that figure as the car ages. Any money left over can be put away for your next brick.

Others may argue this point, but unless you do most of your own work, I think that this estimate is correct.

It's the same car, but most will tell you the S70 is a nicer ride. The 98 was more problem prone than the later 70's, but most problems will have been fixed by now. Have a set of tools handy. Unlike Japanese cars, European cars come with hoods for a reason.

      hoods?

        OK. Bonnets, then.

The hood (bonnet) on a Japanese car is a decoration. They could be delivered from the factory with the hood (bonnet) welded shut.

i think it is a reference to the fact that Japanese cars don't require as much
maintenance as our beloved bricks (and most Euro cars). Just fill 'em up with fuel and go......
