Moonroof leaking?? 850

I got in my 95 850 a few days ago, and slid the interior sunroof cover forward, only to find that it was pretty wet. I slid the sunroof back, and forward again to make sure it was closed. After the next rain it seemed not to have leaked. My question is, how often do you have to change the gasket (or whatever) on the sunroof? How hard is it?

Bob

ps...my tranny problems were fixed with a flush as well as a minor tune up (distributor cap and rotor).

The design of the sunroof on the 850 is not to preclude water entering around the closed sunroof, but to efficiently remove the water that does come in through four drains located at the corners of the sunroof tray. If you are absolutely certain that the car was not driven in the rain with the sunroof open, then the drains are the most likely culprit. If the drains become clogged, this can cause water to spill in over the lip of the tray. This is easy to check just by opening the sunroof, and pouring some water in the tray and see if the water drains out through the drains. If not, then clearing the drains should fix the problem.

Thanks for the tip. Where do the drains exit the roof?

I'm not sure. There are hoses attached to the drains, but I don't know how they are routed. They drain out under the car somewhere.

There are 4 drains. One in each corner. The two in the front go down the front windshield coner post. On my wagon, the rear go down just behind the rear doors. Don't know where they actually come out. The drain hose is about 1/2" i.d. clear tubing. Mine is somewhat darkend with age. You might try a coat hanger to clean them. They are in the four corners and come out on the sides almost perpindicular to the sides. Hope this helps.
