fuel injector cleaner 850 1993

My injectors usually "tick" which the volvo mech says is normal. when they warm up they are silent however the other morning the "tick" was considerably louder than usual after warming for a minute or two I revved it once and the loud "tick" disappeared. do I need a cleaner?

    Hi ya,

    Firstly you don't need a fuel injector cleaner as they are self-cleaning units, i used to do the same. I generally use ut now just to keep the fuel lines and tank in good shape.

    I have that heavy ticking you are on about and i also have very noisy tappets too. I use Mobil 0w/40 here in the UK and due to its thinness it takes between 15 to 30 minutes when cold for the symptoms to go away. I still get the faint noise of the injectors but they is be design on our engines.

    Just for you info to replace the noisy tappets is about $1800 job so i am living with it for now.

    For a injector cleaner, I use BG 44K twice a year. But the tick sounds more like it may be in the valve train. Does that suggest an oil change? Or maybe an oil flush with ATF, then an oil change?

      I thought it was the valve train too, but the mechanic (and I am very pleased with him)at volvo flat out said it was the injectors. The oil is still clean and has maybe 2-3000 on it not synthetic. The car just turned 190,000 miles runs great I had the timing belt and tensioners replaced for safety. again they only tick until it warms up or gets a rev or two....

    Don't know if you need a cleaner but if you want
    one as a preventative many here like Chevron Techron.
    You can get it at Pep Boys, Etc..
