Metal glue on axle splines - necessary? 850

I dove in and replaced my axle (almost done). The Haynes manual talks about some sort of "metal adhesive" to use on the splines. Is this necessary? I've heard contrary advice to use an anti-seize compound (for a different car).

Any opinions/facts?

Thanks!

Thanks for the tip on the Loctite. I see that it is not so much to keep the hub attached to the axle, but to accommodate low tolerances in the hub/spline fit. So even though it makes removal harder, it's probably a good idea. Otherwise a little bit of play could strip the splines over time. The axle did slide right in the hub, so the tolerances are not exact.

And it looks like they sell 0.5 ml packets which is probably perfect for the job.

Most mfgrs. say to use Loctite on splines. It's a safety issue in case you lose axle nut. I've never used it on my Aydis, etc.

The info I got was from http://www.vfaq.com/mods/CVboots.html

This is from a Mitsubishi Eclipse (I guess).

I got my axles from www.raxles.com.
