Which Thermostat To Use? S70 1998

I think I need to replace my thermostat. The temp needle isn't climbing as high as it used to. I see that there are two options.

87C/189F
90C/194F

Which one is stock. What are the advantages/disadvantages to using one or the other. I live in NE Ohio.

I don't know what the weather is like where you live, but the 87 is stock, 92 is cold climate. 92 makes the engine warm up faster, allowing you to get heat quicker, it also improves gas milage slightly. This is because the engine reaches operating temperature faster. I use the 92 in winter and 87 in summer, although the 92 is perfectly fineyear round.

Specifications

Opening Temperature Specifications

Marking 87

Starts Opening At 87°C (189°F)

Fully Open At 102°C (216°F)

Above is for my 98 T5M. I just replaced mine from one ordered
at volvoparts.com not knowing there were two. I guess they sent
me the right one.

Note: The torx screw on the inside of the thermostat flange is
easy to lose. I dropped it and it took an hour to fish it back
out with a magnet and string. Be very careful with that one bolt.
Bay13 has full instructions.
