Exhaust Smell in Cabin 850

Hi

Whenever I come to a stop, or I am in slow moving traffic, it smells like exhaust inside the car. I've never noticed it before; and I'm not sure if I have an exhaust leak or not. The car is not running loudly.

I had the exhaust smell and was not the traditional pipe/muffler type problem. Turned out the exhaust manifold had a crack. You might check there as 850 exhaust components typically last many miles - I have 210,000 miles and original system except for manifold!

"not sure if I have an exhaust leak or not"

If you smell exhaust, you've got an exhaust leak. Period! Unless you are talking about being stuck in the Lincoln Tunnel during rush-hour.

This is not rocket science--go get it checked.

      Ken-
It may not be rocket science, but don't be too hasty to put Jake850 down: I've taken my '94 850 to three mechanics with the same (sulfur/exhaust) smell, and none can find an exhaust leak. I've had suggestions of mystery oil(waste of $$), something called "Catalytic Converter Cleaner" (everybody's heard of it, but they just can't pinpoint exactly where some can be purchased) to increasing octane to get rid of the smell (tried that, too). One year later, I've still got the problem, and according to the number of simiar inquiries on this page, so too do many others. anybody got any new ideas??
