Volvo's responsibility for loaner/ rental car during warranty work?

I had a problem w/ low power and engine oil light staying on. Dealer in Indiana tried replacing a sensor, but still had same problems. Volvo rep in Indiana authorized replacement of the oil pump, but could not give a time period of when they could accomplish the task. I trailered car home to local dealer near Birmingham, Alabama. Dropped car off at dealership on 31 Dec 2002. They replaced the oil pump & I picked it back up several days later, and on the way home the turbo went out (within 10 miles of the dealership). Volvo had the car towed back. They ended up replacing the engine under warranty. The repairs were completed, and the car was picked up on 31 Jan 2003. I had asked the dealership for a loaner during the month they had the car, but was told that there were no loaner cars available. I ended up with a rental car for the month it took for the repairs to be completed, at a cost to me of nearly $800. I would think that Volvo should take responsibility for the rental car. I am curious to hear if anyone else been fortunate enough to have had the maunfacturer take responsibility in a case like this.

FYI:

Just the cover your a** in the future some insurance companies, I know State Farm does for sure, let you carry rental car coverage for about a $1.50 a month on top of your premium. I have used it and still have it. They will pay up to $25 or $30 a day for rental car while yours is in the shop. The coverage will get you a sub-compact, which is better than walking.

regards

What model of car do you have? Where did you purchase this car?
If you did not purchase your car from the dealer that replaced the engine, they do not neccessarily have to give you a loaner car. The unofficial loaner policy at dealers is to give the car to customers who purchased their car new from them, or to regular customers or to buddies of the dealer principal. I find it hard to believe that it would take a month to get an engine from volvo and put one in. Alabama is really close to Georgia where volvo has a major distribution center in Suwanee. If the rep okay'd the oil pump in Indiana, then it probably was a goodwill warranty replacement on a car that was a few days out of warranty coverage which is determined by the date the car was retailed. You could request a meeting with the Volvo rep or the dealer principal of the dealership that did the engine replacement to see if you could get a reimbursement on your rental expense. But you have to be nice, if you go in there in a huff with the dealer principal he could tell you to get lost and never ever come back. I've seen it happen and its not a pretty sight.

good luck.
