flame trap service (easy) 850

This weekend I went searching for the weak link
the (FLAME TRAP), after going on bay 13,
It was super easy, my 93 trap was almost
completely clogged. I got the plastic screen
out and clean out every little hole.
also clean the the intake trottle body.

there is no excuse, it is super easy.

the black covering on the lower right corner of engine, unscrew bolt, pull out like 3 hoses and you've got it. Thats really general, check volvospeed.com's Bay13 for specifics and pics

Appreciate your reply. Just got my 1st 850 last week, but not my 1st Volvo, and still trying to put together some resources for future maintenance issues. I'll go over to Volvospeed and check things out.

        Thanks again,
        Nathaniel

Just curious, why not just replace it. From what I've read on this board, it's a $1 part. I am planning to service this on my 96 on my next oil change.

There is really no need to replace it, just clean it.

I replaced mine, the first time, because, without drawings, or directions, it was unclear as to how the flame trap comes out of it's housing. I ended up pulling it out with a sheetmetal screw, which destroyed it. So, I put in a new one.

Now that I know how it comes out, I see no need to replace it, just clean it.

THE PART IS CHEAP BUT I DIDNT HAVE A NEW ONE
AT THE TIME, I THINK IT IS OK TO CLEAN THE EXISTING ONE,
IT IS PLASTIC WITH LITTLE HOLES IN IT, I USED A SMALL
NAIL TO CLEAR THE CLOGGED HOLES,
