HU-801 Problems? S80 2000

I recently got rear-ended by a tractor trailer at 30 MPH while playing a CD in the HU-801 in my 2000 S80. Later on, when I tried to eject the two CDs that were in, I got a "CD Error" and neither would eject. My guess is that they got jammed when the car was jolted forward. When this issue was brought to the attention of my Volvo dealer, they replaced the whole HU-801 instead of removing the CDs and fixing whatever my have been wrong. Do you think this was correct on the dealer to replace it rather than trying to fix it?

What other larger problems could have resulted with the HU-801 besides having the CDs jam, maybe causing it to be replaced? Is it possible to remove a stuck CD from the HU-801 (without going to the dealer)? How common are stuck CDs? What could the "CD Error" message mean?

Thanks!
- Jeff

volvo recommends replacing the entire unit rather than the dealer trying to fish out the cd's out of the player. your was probably replaced with an exchange unit.

Opening an HU-80x radio to remove stuck CD's will always cause serious damage to the CD mechanism (expensive).

It is better to let an professional radio workshop do this on their own risk. If you gave the name and address with the replaced radio, the radio workshop usually return the CDs.
