Finally took the plunge... S70

After five years, my father decided to purchase another Volvo, and he did so today. We just acquired a '99 S70 base, automatic, 39k miles, a one-owner vehicle that is in excellent condition. It is silver with black leather and we got it at the same dealership where we purchased my current car ('93 850). This car is really nice: it has traction control, CD player, power seats, I could go on and on. And you guys are really nice about providing advice, so is there anything we should look for during our initial ownership of this S70, i.e. known problems, quirks, etc? Here are the only two things wrong with it so far:

Driver's door lock assembly broken
Driver's-side window inoperable

    Finally took the plunge...Possible explaination S70

    With a broken lock, and a window that does not operate, it sounds like someone tried to unlock the car with a Slim Jim.

    Could be that a couple of wires were broken or disconnected.

    Check the rubber seals on the bottom of both front doors for nicks and scratches.

    Good luck with your new baby.

    Juan;

    The only real issue that I've had with my car (knock on wood - a '98 S70 base)was a bad thermostat. Your car should warm up to the midrange on the dial pretty quickly...a few minutes even in pretty cold weather. If the needle hangs in the lower part of the range for a long time, think about popping out the thermostat to see if it is stuck or broken open. My thermostat actually had one of the brackets broken right through. Worst part was I thought it was "normal" and drove around way too long like that.

    Good luck!
