Tires & TRACS--Does TRACS make GLT and AWD or not, V70-XC70 1998

I recently purchased a 1998 V70 GLT with the TRACS/Winter package. I've seen it refered to as GLT AWD. Does the TRACS make the car AWD? The manual suggests that you not turn the TRACS system off, but does not specifically refer to it making the car AWD. The reason I'm asking is I just blew my front passenger tire in the aftermath of the mid-atlantic snowstorm (did'nt see that curb). Anyway, the car only has 50,000 and the dealer where I purchased the car said the tires were new and they look good. Can I just replace the tire (Michelin MX4's 195/60/R15)or will I need a new set. BTW, what would be a good replacement tire for softer/all season ride? Thanks for any help clearing the confusion and any replacement recommendations.

Tires & TRACS--Does TRACS make GLT and AWD or not, V70-XC70 1998

    Mingus,

TRACs is the traction control system. It does not make your car AWD. If you have a V70 GLT with no AWD designation, it is not AWD.

I would at least replace the tires in pairs, but if you can only replace one I would make sure it is on the back. Since you are using all-season tires in the snow, I would make sure that they have at least 6/32 of an inch of tread depth. If you have less, I would replace all 4.

I'm not sure what would be softer than MX4s. Those are pretty cushy tires compared to what I like to use. If you replace just one, stick with the same tire.

My 2 cents. I'm sure you'll get more opinions.
