No brake lights- fuse is OK, switch? V70-XC70 1999

It seems that I have been driving around with no brake lights for a week or so. The fuse is OK and there is no buld failure idicator. Would this be some kind of switch failure on the pedal itself?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Just reporting that the problem was the brake light switch. The part cost me $39.00 Canadian. It takes about 5 minutes to do the whole job. Just need to remove the trim panel that is at the drivers knees then follow the brake pedal shaft up until you see a black switch with a yellow connector attached just in front (closer to the driver) of the pedal shaft. Remove the yellow connector, pull the switch from the steel mounting location (takes some force) and then install the new switch. The switch works in the opposite direction than I was expecting. When there is no pressure on the pedal the switch is engaged and turns the lights off. When you press down on the pedal the switch loses contact with the pedal shaft and turns the lights on.

Possible. My pedal switch failed 2 Y. ago. This switch has two pole. One is for the brake light and the other one is for the shift lock release.

I noticed an earlier post of yours about your driveshaft support bearing. Did it turn out to be that or was it really the front right wheel bearing. I have replaced both on my 98 v70 awd. If it was the drivelshaft support bearing, did the do the $1100 job as quoted you? My curiosity about what dealers do has been piqued by my post earlier this week about replacing bearings and not assemblies.

It was the driveshaft support bearing, had to replace the whole rear drivesaft. The part for my 99 was $1132.00 + 1 hour labour to install. The car is quiet now. I'm so glad I bought an extended warranty when I bought this car last year. This repair alone has almost covered what i paid for the warranty.

Not me. I do not have an AWD.
