V70 Series 2 7 seat option V70-XC70 2003

Hi,

I'm in the UK and I'm having a dealer, Kinglsey of Reading, fit 2 seats in the rear load area of my Series 2 V70.

They are of the opinion there is no need to fit an external lock with lock barrel for this vehicle. However Volvo UK have now stated this is a legal requirment for use in an emergency after an accident.

Does anyone have the 7 seat V70? Do they have an external lock that the key will fit for use in an emergency? Was it dealer fit or a factory option?

Also, does anyone have experience, good or bad, of Kingsley of Reading?

regards

Durelli.

I'm still waiting for the Dealer to come back to me about the lock.

Volvo have convinced them to do it. And last Tuesday they said it will take 3 days. Here we are 7 days later and I'm waiting for a phone call. Having chased them twice today.

But, I read my owners manual yesterday for the first time. It does mention the lock barrel twice, once in a boxed area headed WARNING.

It also brought up another question, it states the interior handle that is fitted as part of the 7 seat option has a child lock to prevent the handle being used from the inside.

It states that the child lock should not be used. The interior handle should always be available for use from the inside.

Why is this? Isn't this dangerous if children open the tailgate at high speed?
Why fit a child lock and then say it should not be used?

Any ideas? Any thoughts on the use of child locks?

    Dave D.

I'm in the US but in the US, one can order an external lock cylinder for any newer V70. I've installed many 3rd seats in newer V70s and when we do that, we add an inside door lock and latch that can be opened from the inside in case of emergency. We get the hardware for the external lock cylinder too, the lock cylinder is optional here (never been asked to install one so far) and I'd think that it'd best be installed by a body shop as I'm never thrilled with the idea of drilling large holes through sheet metal. If it's not in the exact location, it won't work correctly.
If it's an option in the UK (and should be), your Volvo dealers parts department should be able to order you one. The interior door latch and locking hardware comes with the 3rd seat kits now in the US but some of those parts use to be optional here until maybe 1-2 yrs ago.
