Wagon Hatch Wont Latch In Cold V70-XC70 2000

My 2000XC at 33K miles has developed a cold weather problem.
At less than 20F the rear hatch wont latch. Opens OK then when closed the hatch can be opened just by lifing on it! Then the dash indicator is intermitant, that's how I discovered the problem. It tired some silicon spray up in the lock part, not much luck. I'm afraid the dog will fall out on the frozen tundra.
All is well when at warmer temps. Any ideas?

I guess the folks at the dealer will have a go at it. I can just hear it now "It seems to operate as designed now" followed by that smile that knows I'm some sort of jerk, as it most likely be cold enough when I bring it in. Oh well...

Thanks,

Kele'

If memory serves, there was a recall on 2000 model year V-70 tailgate latches. Call or visit your dealer and ask him to check the Volvo database for open recalls.
