turbo noise XC90 2003

I just got the new XC90 T6 twin turbo 2 months ago, and I have a huge complaint with the noise coming from the turbo system. every time I take my foot off the gas I hear this annoying whining sound coming from the engine. I am told it has to do with the air intake valve and there will not be a fix for it until the summer. I love everything else about the car, but I now HATE driving it because of how loud and abnoxious this noise has become.

Has anyone else had the same problem? I would love to know if any other dealer has been able to fix this problem.

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

You will get used to it. I have had mine since dec.01 and I rarely hear it anymore. How about the clunk in the transmission when you let of the gas in the manual mode? How about the front doors that will not stay open on a slight uphill grade? Or here is a good one I am having all new leather installed at this time because the dealer used a leather protector that cost me $300. My leather started turning orange... I personally am disappointed with the power and response of this car. There are too many dead spots in this engine. PS did you know that there is no gas peddle cable. This car is a true fly by wire. There is just an electronic sensor and it tells the computer that you want to go faster. Byu the way the noise you hear from the turbos is exaust noise from backpressure when the intake closes. The air is just escaping back through the turbo. Just tell your friends Yaa that`s cool sound isn`t it? Does every one have the same hard push and the second little push on the gas peddle?

MY XC-90 (PURCHASED IN DEC, 2002)ALSO MAKES THIS NOISE FROM THE TURBO SYSTEM. I THINK SURELY IT MUST BE A DEFECTIVE TURBO BUT I HAVE HAD THE CAR INTO THE DEALER TWICE AND THEY SAY IT WILL ALWAYS MAKE THIS NOISE. THEY TELL ME NOTHING ABOUT A FIX. I ALSO HATE DRIVING AND HEAR THIS BUT I ALSO HAVE AN ANNOYING ROAR IN THE REAR END THAT THEY SAY IS THE LARGE TIRES (ROAD NOISE). I HOPE YOU ARE CORRECT ABOUT SOMETHING BEING DONE ABOUT THIS.

My car also makes that noise. Its in at the dealer today. We will see what happens. Do you experience torque steer under full acceleration? My car veers to the sides, but the alignment is severly off. I had to wait for 1ooo miles to get the car aligned as per Volvo's recomendation.

Marqism--Did you ever get any new info from the dealer when you brought it in last week? Please let me know, I am curious if they were able to do anything for you.

Thanks,

Neal

Yes, that problem (sometimes called a whistle or a siren depending on the severity of the noise) has been noted by many owners and Volvo is reported to be working on a fix due out in April. Check with your dealer then to see if it has arrived. If the dealer doesn't know, you can try Volvo's customer service hotline at 800-458-1552. In the meantime you can console yourself on the Sweedspeed, VolvoXC or Edmunds forums which aren't dead like this one. How do you like the 90 otherwise? The other major complaint seems to be the gas mileage which is nowhere near the rated 20 highway.

Actually, I own a 2000 XC, not an XC90. I've been reading up on 'em, though. The XC90 has had a few teething problems and adjustments but overall a rather successful introduction. As with any new model, some owners have had to be patient in getting problems identified and solved. If it only had a hill-descent gear I'd probably have one already. As it is I'm waiting to see what the Touareg has to offer.
