Seat heater recall problems 850

My seat heaters were working fine, but I thought I would "update" them via the recall. I did so, and sure enough, they barely work now. The driver's side heater gets a barely perceptible amount of heat (if any), and the passenger seat gets virtually no heat. Wondering if anyone else has had this problem with the recall work.

    Seat heater recall problems 850

I had my recall work done last week on my '96 850 Turbo that was mfged in March, '96. I am not sure if the dealer did anything at all with the seat heater elements.
The service invoice indicated that they installed and relocated front seats heater cable wiring harnesses. However, it appears that they did not do anything with the heating elements. Now I have no heat on the drivers' side and very little on the passengers' side.
Do you know if the recall notice called for replacing of seat heating elements?
    Fred.

      Seat heater recall problems 850

Hopefully someone with more info will chime in here, but the way my mechanic explained it to me, it involved more of a re-routing of some wiring and perhaps a new location for the thermostat. I don't believe it involved replacement of the heating elements. In any case, what I have now is pretty worthless, so I'm exploring options as to what to do. I have the feeling that I would've been better off if I had left it as it was.

I'm affraid to take mine in. I have a 93 850 and have had no problems with my seats. What is the reason for the recall exactly?

My understanding is that they instituted the recall because somehow the pressure caused by sitting on the seat caused a reaction which resulted in combustion/fire in some cases. As I understand it, the purpose of the recall was to relocate certain parts so this wouldn't happen again.

I didn't know the relocation would result in no heat getting to my seats!!!

            What it is....... 850

I work at a dealer and although I havent had one car come to us yet for this, I've briefly read the info on what's involved.
It has nothing to do with replacing the elements whatsoever so if you need new elements, they won't be replaced for free.
What's done is another wiring harness is added under each seat and included in that harness is yet another built-in relay which is dependant on ambient temperature. It's just a simple add-on safety device plugged in to help reduce current flow so that the elements can't get too hot so I can understand why the heat might be less than what you had before.
