I replaced the evaporator last year before the end of the summer, recenly with 81K replaced my blower unit and no my condenser is going on me. Over $1,000 so far, and another $1,000 according to my dealer. Will be looking for used parts or after market and try to replace myself. anyone with experience in this area, would greatly appreciate some help.

I had my evaporator replaced at about 60K miles - Volvo replaced it and intstalled a redesigned cabin filter which is "supposed" to keep the condensation etc from corroding the unit. Its a costly repair to pull the dash. Also you will find many cars in this group with blower moters that fail or draw too much current and trips the ECU protection mode (the fan quits until you restart the car). The blower can be fixed from the glove box with a replacment costing $100-150

I have a '94 850 T wagon and last summer the A/C gave out. Put a new evaperator in and then it began to leak again at the end of the summer a few weeks after it had been fixed. Need to find a new leak or new Evap. soon.

Evaporator failure on '95 850 GLT at 120k miles. Haven't fixed it yet due to cost. Would do the work myself but I don't look forward to removing the entire dash. Wish there was a better way to gain access.

1994 850 with 158,000 miles. I have a leak. My mechanics thinks he has a way of fixing it. Otherwise, it is going to be a hot summer this year in Florida.

Ever since I've started reading this board, I've been worried the A/C and transmission are going to go out _any_day_now_. Prior to this, I rarely used the A/C and when I did, I always shut it off 10 minutes before I arrived at my destination. Maybe it's silly, but maybe it's preserved the evaporator. I've got 142k and haven't ever had the a/c serviced. Dumb luck?

Never failed on my '94 before I sold it a year ago. I did the pollen filter upgrade when I bought the car in '97. Guess I was lucky. My '99 works as new.

Consumer Reports has "full black circles" for AC for both the '95 and '96.

By their translation chart that means "many". VCNA surely knows how many evaporator cores it sells in the US each year, but unfortunately it's not telling.

I've had both the expensive AC hose fail and the evaporator fail somewhere between 80k and 101k. My compressor is getting noisy, too.

Mechanic reccomended an evap change due to small leak (most leaks in the Volvo evaps are small), but im gonna wait until summer and get a leak seal/recharge and hope it'll hold, R134a is pretty cheap and available, so I can deal with recharging it 2-3 times a year, or if it don't work I can just open the sunroof. My parents won't have any sympathy, I'm a 16yr old driving a Euro Sedan, they'll say the same, "put the windows down" when faced with $800 evap bill, lol.
