S70AWD rear spring noise S70

Hello all-

I have an occasional noise from the rear of my '99 S70AWD that sounds like a spring shifting in its seat ... kind of a "boing" sound ...pretty loud.

It usually happens when I go through a shallow dip or rise in the road surface, after a long period of cruising on smooth roads.

Sometimes it does it when I just turn a corner with enough speed to raise the inside rear suspension a little. I've heard it a few times just braking or accelerating straight ahead.

Has anyone else heard this? Any idea what it is and how to fix?

I've got 48k miles on her now, but it's been doing it since about 20k.

Thanks.

    S70AWD rear spring noise V70-XC70 2000

I actually had the same problem. I have a 2000 XC and starting at about 20,000 miles I would hear this "spring" noise. It appeared to be coming from the left rear of the car. At about 70,000 miles I began hearing it all the time in the same conditions you described. I took it to my repair shop, they also heard the noise, but could find nothing wrong. Shortly thereafter I was driving on a very very rough dirt road and afterwards I noticed the noise was gone. That was several thousand miles ago, but the noise has not come back.
