Remote Start Location...and a mysterious switch 850

Ok, bear with me, I don't have a digital camera or I'd get a pic of this for you. Under the steering wheel, on the kickplate, is a small metal switch. It is to the right of the hood latch release lever. I know the car has a remote start that I haven't been able to figure out how to use. I thought maybe this switch was related. Idk, help me here.
---
And, btw, anyone know why my remote start won't work, I have batteries in the remote. The previous owner who was the second owner didn't know either. Where would a remote starter be located under the hood, I have a yellow sticker saying there is remote start there, I just don't know where.

    Remote Start Location...and a mysterious switch 850

Remote starters are usually located under the dash. A small module and receiver (like a aftermarket alarm module) It splices in in to the connection to the starter.
Your remote starter usually has an inline fuse located near the module.
Some Key remotes have special sequence to start the vehicle. Mine has 3 quick presses to start it. Your remote possible (like mine) is designed as multi-function. Such as alarm/remote start/windows... etc

How many buttons are on your remote?

What is a remote starter? What is the connection with the keyless entry. I have 2 buttons on mine. Same year as Matt in MA. Is there a trunk release button in these cars?
