Power Steering Hose and TSB.

How long does the pressure power steering hose from the
reservoir to the power steering pump usually last?

My hose has been leaking a little from the reservoir end.
I called my parts supplier and he said there is
a TSB to remove the cheap clamp that is on there now
and pop on a sturdy O-clamps that you can tighten
with a screwdriver. My hose also seems to be weakened
and seeping where it sits on the support bracket which
is mounted on the power steering pump. Maybe due to the
heat of that support. It is leaking a little on the
components below which is a safety concern.

What is the average longevity of this hose and is it
easy to change over. Hose costs about $45.

Hope the TSB helps many.

Never replaced a hose to date. Just cut the old clamps off and install new ones and that can be easily done w/o even removing the hose.

      Hey Frank,

I threw on the O-clamp and few days ago but I'm still
      getting a little leakage.

Let me explain : if you look very closely at the top of
these hoses where the hose connects to the reservoir
you will notice that the hose consists of two plys
like bathroom tissue. Here is the strange thing, I am getting
tiny PS fluid bubbles eminating from the middle of the two
plys. I have adjusting the tighteness and I does not seem to
      help.

I called a local auto supply and the gent told me that generally the
pressurized PS hose don't last forever. He said they usually
start rotting from the inside out anywheres from 4 years on
depending on your driving habits. He may be right cause as I
feel all around the hose a tar like substance rubs off on my
      hand.

If my situation does not jive with everyone else could it be that
whatever shop had my car in the last few years spiked my reservoir with
something. eg water or something else.
