Brake Pads, lowering dust and not grinding rotors S40-V40

Okay.......I'm not so sure I'm going to wait for the brake pads to wear down on my '03 V40. The excessive dust on the wheels is driving me crazy! So I'm looking for good replacement pads that will have less dust....but not grind down the rotors. It's fine if the pads wear out sooner, just as long as they provid the same braking power of the OEM pads......and they don't prematurely wear out the rotors!

Anyone with any experience with this on the Phase II V40's?

Slightly on topic, but if one replaces brake parts with aftermarket, does that nuke the warranty if something related goes wrong? Sorry to pollute the thread, but as one staring at the expected pad replacement at the 12k kilometer mark on my 03 v40, I thought I would check. The dust is a problem, though there are nasty sprays that will keep them clean.
    Thanks, folks.
    Bob

      Bob,

Replacing your brakes and rotors with aftermarket parts will not void your warranty. Some Volvo dealerships will tell you that it does, but legally it doesn't. Check http://www.sema.org/content/?id=8124 out for more information on denial of warranty. The only warranty it does void is the one concerning your current brake pads and rotors which when you purchase from another company come with their own warranty anyways. Your calipers will still be under Volvo's warranty though. If you calipers do by chance fail and they can prove that it was because of the aftermarket parts (this will never be the case) then it might void your warranty, but they have to have valid proof that the new parts were what caused the problem.

I have been using aftermarket brakes and rotors ever since I learned what volvo charged for there's and I have had no problems what-so-ever. In fact my braking is better and I have less brake dust problems. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks Peter. Makes sense. So the Mintex pads are the best you've found?
        Best,

Yep. Mintex with the PowerSlot rotors from IPD make a great combination. You can reach IPD at http://www.ipdusa.com. Give them a call to get the sale price on the set.

The Mintex pads the IPD sells have worked best for me. I got better performance out of them, a lot less dust and they lasted longer.

You might want to hold off on those PBR Deluxes. EBC Green Stuff seems to be a better alternative. See:

and read the two pages related to PBR Deluxe Brake Pads and EBC Green Stuff Brake Pads.
