RPM At Start 850 1996

Hi All, I am the proud owner of a 96 850 turbo wagon for about 2 weeks now. I have been monitoring this board for about 2 months and have learned a ton of info. about Volvo's, and it helped me decide in favor of getting one. So I have my first question. I have noticed that after starting the car when cold, the RPM's climb immediately to about 1800 rpm for about 1-2 seconds and then drops to 1000 rpm. Is this normal for a Volvo? I would think this would work against longevity. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks, Mike

No its not suppose to goto 1800rpm. Mine does it also.
Its suppose goto around 950rpm. Normal idle.

I believe its probably a bad vacuum line.

Mine does it also and does not seem normal. I fixed several vacuum line leaks, but did not resolve. Still searching for answer.

Mine ('94 T5) does it also and I agree about the longevity concern. It makes me cringe every time, but my Volvo mechanic says it is normal.Would the non return valve in the oil filter help at startup?

Rick.
