Heater Control Backlight Replacement S70 1998

The backlights are out on my wife's S70. There is a trim panel (fake walnut) that looks like it needs to come off to get to the lamps. How do you get at the lamps without ruining the trim?

    buroak,

Actually, that "fake" walnut is real.

One either side of the radio you will see a vertical button. Press it in with a coin or similar and it will pop out. Extend each one fully and use them to remove the radio.

You don't have to unplug the radio, since the cables are long enough to get it past the opening. FYI, if you do disconnect the power, you'll have to enter the radio code. That info should be in your owner's manual.

Just reach up through the radio opening, push the release tab and extract the ECC. The bulb holders open with 1/4 turn. The bulbs are a push fit and you'll probably have to get them from the dealer.

    Have fun,

    Bryan
