Programming a keyless remote V70-XC70 2000

I looked into the archives and couldn't find any posts about a 2000 v70 on this subject. I just purchased a pre-owned 2000 XC from a private seller and he gave me an xtra keyless remote. He said he picked it up off ebay and hadn't had time to go to the dealer to have it programed. I tried the "turn the key 5 times" trick and failed. Does anyone know if I have to have professionally done?
Thanks Pat

Unlike older cars (even '98s), the '99 on up cars all require software from the dealers Vadis PC to make any remote work AND that assumes that you have the original packaging with the necessary programing #s. If you don't have the #s, the remote is useless.

Programming a keyless remote V70-XC70 2000

Hi, my '98 xc requires me to take all remotes and the car to the dealer so they can program everything to work together with a volvo scan tool. Just make an appointment at a dealer and they may do it for free if you do business there. A 2000 model will likely be similar. ~Gerald
