squeeky brakes again 850 1996

do you have to take the car to the dealer to get the brakes to stop squeeking? i just had new rotars and brake pads put on front by my mechanic and he ground down the back ones, didnt start for about 2 weeks, now they wake my neighbors up when i leave for work in the morning. I have the same problem with my 1987 740.

I've encountered this problem with a variety of brake pad suppliers and also agree with using the OE pads. IF you have an air compressor, blow out the calipers and rotors about once a month and the squeaking should be kept to a minimum. I use the OE pads and blow out the dust prior to doing my car washing.

Good luck

Some brake pads are more prone to squeek than others. Try file a 1/8" bevel on the lead and trailing edge of pads or different brand of pad also check anti squeel springs are fitted correctly.

OEM brakes pads are dusty BUT they do a great job of stopping the car as quickly as possible (VERY important IMHO) and they're quiet.

I work at a dealer and we see your complaint commonly after people get brakes installed elsewhere. Your rotors should be OK but OEM pads will cure the noise. It's all I ever use in my Volvos too.
