Man Your Lucky It Hasn't Exploded Already !! 850

Just kidding. But if you want to get it back to the correct level I would just wait till it cools down and unscrew the oil filter and pour out what you think is the right amount then spin the filter back on and you should be able to sleep at night.

More important than giving you a direct answer to your question, is that you understand why adding too much oil is bad for your car.

The oil quantity (level) was determined, by Vovlo engineers, to fall within a range of too little, or to much.

To little, and the consequences are obvious.

Too much and the crankshaft starts hitting the surface of the oil in the sump, pounding air into the oil (foaming) and making the oil unusable. Additionally, too high an oil level will cause oil to lay against you main crankshaft seals, encouraging a leak. Remember, those seals were not designed to have a body of oil laying against them, only the occassional splash, or squit, or ooze.

That extra 1/2 liter will not hurt your car. But if you do put too much oil in, just loosen the drain plug and let it drip out 'till the level is correct.

I always run my 95 850T and 98 V70 with an extra pint (1/2 quart) to keep the lifters quiet.
One time looooong time ago I forgot had already filled the crankcase of a Dodge 360 CID, got back from lunch and put anothe 5 quarts.
After about 5 min of test drive the oil foamed up and the oil pump started sucking air, it sounded like it was about to throw a rod.
Turned it off, waited for the oil to settle, drove back to the shop, removed 5 quarts, no damage to the engine.
