Gas guage/software prob. S40-V40 2000

Over the past 6 months I have noticed that when I fill up my '00 S40 the gas guage shows no more than 14-15 gallons as opposed to full! Lately its been registering 14 or less!!! My dealer did some sort of software download after showing me a SB that outlined related problems that owners have noticed at both ends of the fuel guage. When I left the dealer I had less than 1/2 a tank and when I filled the tank two days later....it only registered slightly above 1/2 a tank!!!!!!!!! I will take it back, but what other options/fixes are out there? Thanks, Bill

The gas guage tweaking (as per TSB) requires that the car must have a full tank BEFORE one attempts to adjust the guage. The adjustment should only effect the upper part of where the needle rests at full.
I assume that your tank wasn't full when they did that?

Frank....no it wasn't! It was about 3/4 full (approx) so I guess that could make a differance????? thanks, Bill

That IS the cause of your new problem, THEY failed to follow the specific instructions that do say that the tank MUST BE full first, no doubt about it.

When we've done that, we'll send a lot kid with the car to the gas station to fill it up as customers don't know that and the tank has to be completely filled (topped up).
