Volvo 916 Alarm - How do I use it? 850

Dear All

My car is fitted with an alarm system and there is a leaflet from Volvo referring to the installation of a 916 Alarm system.

I don't have the push button key ring or the pyramid thing on the top of the dash, but I do have some sensors fitted on the inside windscreen pillars and a master key on my key ring. The leaflet refers to a 'hidden' switch that can act as an emergence enabler/disabler of the alarm system. There is also a 'horn' fitted under bonnet. But where is the hidden switch? The previous owner said 'what alarm' - seems in the years he had the car he never knew it had an alarm!!

Can I purchase 'push button keys' like on the internet and use them to alarm the car or do I need to go back to my dealer.

I have problems with my dealer as he says the car is more than 10 years so they don't like to supply parts or info. Is this normal? Or fair?

Thanks again for you help, this site is invaluable.
Matt

Volvo 916 Alarm - How do I use it? 850 1993

Hi Matt: We have the same car I believe--a 1993 850 GLT. I didn't know I had an alarm either until I locked the car with the windows down, reached in from the outside and unlocked the car, then the alarm went off--headlights blinking and horn sounding . . . You might try that to see if it works? I do however, have the blinking red light at the top center of the dash (it blinks whenever the car is locked). My keyless entry has 2 buttons one "lock" one "unlock" but that's it. The alarm is enabled either by using the keyless entry or the key itself.
Hope this helps?
