T5 '95 to T5R '96 Engine 850 1995

Will the Engine from a '96 850 T5R directly replace my blown '95 850 T5? I believe the engine has 20% more BHP, but will I have any problems with the Engine Management Computer?

    shouldn't be too different...

    btw...t5r is a 95 only, 96/97 were r...=)

however, if u are somewhere other than the u.s...then u'd need to becareful, because if it is indeed a 96 r rather than a 95 t5r...then the turbo is different. 95t5r has a 15g, while a 96r euro spec has a 16t.

Much of the T5R's engine additionl power came from software.
It runs additional boost for a limited amount of time (I think
10 seconds but have heard other numbers). So you would need the
ECU (sounds like you don't have it). The original turbo engine with
an ECU from IPD would have as much (or more) power then the R model
and might be the way to go with fewest headaches (unless you have
found a real deal on the R engine).

I recall the R model's ECU's might be harder to get at. Thats a
vauge memory. You might need to research that.

Thanks. I can get the ECU with the engine so that is what I'll do. Are the turbos different because I can have that too.

Check this post out -- someone did some homework on the turbo's
        in the various engines:
