Cracked Rim 96 850 turbo 850

Wondering if anyone might have any comment on this. I have driven this car since it was new in 1996. It now has 98K miles on it. My wife was driving home from a meeting and calls me from the side of the road saying she has a flat tire. Come to find out that the tire is fine but the rim is cracked. 1 inch from the inside of the rim with a crack about 20 inches long. There is also a significant dent in the rim. There has been quite a bit of construction in my neighborhood and she did mention hitting a bump in the road at about 30 mph were they had begun resurfacing the road but I have hit bumps at that speed a million times and never cracked a rim. She said the car was driving normally up until that time.

Any thougts?

And, any thoughts on how much a replacement rim will cost?

the city or county that is doing the road work has insurance for damage to vehicles caused by road construction debris left in the road.

you might try finding out the contractors name doing the job and see if they will pay for it/ contact the city/county that is in charge of maint for that road, get there ins info.

a friend of mine got 2 new rims and 2 new tires from a construction project in houston TX.. they left a piece of concrete curb in the road that he hit, they paid!

    worth a shot.

I bent the hell out of my rim (95 850) driving up here in Boston this past winter. Got a remanufactured one from AAARims http://www.aaarims.com/ I was very pleased. Cost just over 160 and like 35 for 2 day shipping. Rim looked great (although just a little too glossy for stock(got the color right, just too much over-coat)). Can be a little tough to get someone on the phone too, but all in all, I was very pleased with the product for the price.
