Installed K&N Air Filter.............. Reset cars computer???????

Hello All

I installed a K&N Air Filter in my non turbo S70 a week or so ago.

Someone on the board informed me i needed to "reprogramme the ECU", this is what he had to have done on his non turbo s70 in order for his car to run on its potential with the new air filter.

I called my regular Volvo dealer who i use to get serviceing from and he was totally clueless when i told him what i wanted done when i got my 90K Tune up.

Is reprogramming the ecu part of the regular 90K tune up???? or do i need to specify something in order for them to understand what i am saying.

Maybe this service advisor was clueless and did not have an idea what i meant.

Any suggestions, is this something i can go on my own????

Thanks in advance............

I don't sell K&N filters, let's get that out of the way.
I have been running them on my 92 suburban towing a cabin cruiser (8,000 lbs) 300 miles each way, 95 850T and 98 V70.
On the suburban I did get more ponies with the filter alone, but in addition to that, I increased the fuel mileage from 8.1 MPG to 9.2 MPG.
On my 95 850T I have no reference to compare the results, but the car runs very strong.
On my 98 V70 I'm able to get one extra round trip to work from the same gas tank.

The easiest way to "reprogram" the ECU is to disconnect the fuse to the computer to erase the learned parameters. When you re-connect the fuse, drive the car the way you want the car to behave. May not change much, but in theory it should work.

Installed K&N Air Filter.............. Reset cars computer.............NO!

I've read that about K&Ns BUT there's no need to do anything. It's possible that someone was suggesting to reset adaptating BUT with todays emisions testing and the possibilty that your "readiness code" might then be changed (a MAJOR hassle if your car then fails because of that), I'd strongly advise to never request having that done.
If anything is changed from that filter (which I doubt and I use them myself), the car will adapt to it by itself w/o doing anything.
No matter what, you will not notice a performance increase from using a K&N filter.

"No matter what, you will not notice a performance increase from using a K&N filter."

Do you truly feel this way? Even at higher RPMs?

Yep. I run them on my 2 modified cars, one's a turbo 745T with a Unitek Phase One cam, 3" low-flow MVP exhaust, 15psi boost and the other's a 400HP NA, carbed 'stang with an extra 125HP of NOS on demand.
I honestly couldn't notice a difference on either car simply by switching to K&N air filters on either car. I like their flow specs but I doubt that anyone will notice a true feel of added performance.
