I need some ideas with intermittant starting problems. The car starts great for several days without incident and then one time it will turnover fine but nothing. I turn the key numerous times and nothing except turnover of the engine, no coughing. Then it will cough two or three times only but not start. If I let it sit for fifteen minutes or so, it will starts right up. I just had my 120 mile full service one month ago. New plugs, wires etc. The car runs fine but has started this intermittant starting issue. I've almost had to tow it twice and then it started. Seems to do thisore when the weather is hot or when the engine has been running. Starts fine in the morning. Every time I take it to the volvo mechanic is starts fine. Is this an electronic ignition issue. My volvo mechanic and I don't want to replace thing needlessly. Any thoughts?

had a similar problem with a ford, it was the crank shaft sensor going bad, it finally failed completely and had to be towed, the car would not start when the sensor was hot, i guess it was causing more internal resistance in the sensor and when it cooled off it started right up.

sounds like the classic fuel pump relay, very cheap to replace found in the fuse box area.

Thanks for the advise. Will replace fuel pump relay.

I've had random stalling on highway plus difficulties to start
two or three times. New plugs, rotor, distributor, fuel filter,
coil wire, fuel system relay didn't solve the problem. Then I
found a vacuum hose loose from the magnetic valve, put it in
place, and also changed the fuel pump relay. The problem seems
to have gone now.

Check *all* your vacuum lines, not just the ones that are
shown on Bay 13; also, a new fuel pump relay eliminated stalling/
starting problem for many on this list.

I have a 93GLT and was having simular problems. I replaced the fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator and the problem remained. I replaced the fuel pump relay and the problem went away. It's inexpensive and may fix your problem.
