Will 98 engine swap into 99 car? S70 1999

I have a 99 V70 GLT, light pressure turbo B5254T with distributorless ignition. I have found replacement motors out of '98 cars. Does anyone know FOR SURE if this motor is a direct swap? I have the ignition & all other parts from my '99.

Thanks,

Kevin

    Will 98 engine swap into 99 car? S70 1999

I don't know where you are, but in California, it is illegal to put an older motor into a newer car. You can put a newer motor into an older car, but if you do that, the car has to meet smog requirements for the year of the newer motor.

Will 98 engine swap into 99 car? NO! S70 1999

As Phil mentions below, the answer is no and although the engine will bolt up, getting things to function correctly w/o headaches and a check engine light may not be possible.

      1999+ Variable Valve Timing.... S70 1999

1999 70 has VVT on the intake cam if it's a non-turbo and on the exhaust cam if it's a turbo.

      I'd look for a '99 motor for a '99.

Also curious, why do you want to do this?
