Lightning Storm, Trip Computer/Speedo/Tach and Analog odometers Dead 850 1996

Had lighting storm that hit at/near our house. Our 1996 850 turbo in garage. Surge killed 2 phones in my house, my Network Card on my home PC, the infrared sensors for my garage door opener, and...quite possibly my trip computer and instrument guages on the volvo.

Car starts. All lights work, radio/cd works, sunroof works. BUT, no trip computer showing, and speedometer, tachometer, gas guage AND analog both trip and big ODOMETER have stopped working. Of course, there is no FUSE for that... any ideas if the burst killed something in the volvo?

Besides that, it still is the Alexis Carrington/Colby of cars. Looks great, a real b*%^ch to maintain. AC leaks. Transmission shifts sorta hard.... you all know the rest.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Yup... 850 1996

That would be my guess. When you file the insurance claim for your house, file one for your car, too!

Finish her off- a little gasoline and a match, POOF!

These 850's are such unreliable junk- oh, mine goes in the shop Monday for new ac evaporator, new odometer and leaking gas tank.

Wish lighting would hit mine - its worth more as a total insurance loss!

I couldn't agree more. Mine was worth way more in insurance than actual street value. However, I had no luck in finding a Ford Excursion owner to wipe it out and had to sell it becuase of all the headaches. Never another 850 in my garage, never.

Yes, Lighting is an insured peril on both your Home and Auto policy. You MAY be able to get the auto covered under your homowners policy as the proximate cause of the loss was the lighting striking your house and then to your car. Try that approach....Then you only have one deductible to deal with.

And yes......Lighting can burn out you cars computer. When it is checked, have the repair facility check ALL of the on board computers. even the ABS....

Good luck!
