Centre Arm Rest Cup Holder... S70

Good day,

I need a hand finding a part number and approximate cost to replace the cup holder in the centre arm rest of my S 70. Both retractable rings have broken off as well as the part that holds them in place. I surehope that there is a replacement part available and I do not have to change the whole centre arm rest... any info on aftermarket?? I drink alot of coffee, so a car without a cup holder is totally useless to me... a complete write off!

TIA

Thanks for the help... I ran off to the dealer and installed the replacement. A bit expensive, I was hoping for a cheaper aftermarket part... but oh well. It seems that it is a popular item as the guy at the parts counter knew the part number by heart and hinted to selling lots of them.

Thanks!

Of course your parts counter guy knows the p/n; he no doubt sells hundreds of them each year. It is perhaps the most fragile and exposed part in the car. My dog broke mine ... and she doesn't even drink coffee.

Cupholders were done to death on the Brickboard a while back. Search the archives and have a look. There were some innovative suggestions, but all agreed that the stock cup holder was not Volvo's best design moment, and that it was an afterthought to satisfy the American market.

When I bought my "pre-owned" 98 V70 T5-M, the bottom thingy for the front holder was intentionally removed, which permitted a properly shaped coffee cup to ride more deeply and thus more securely than if supported by the bottom thingy. Worth considering, if you drink as much coffee in large cups as you say. Maybe IPD will come up with an in-dash espresso maker upgrade.

Volvoman,

Assuming the S70 and V70 holder are the same, the p/n is 9499406-8.

A new one cost me $40.87 at my dealer in November 2001.

It was an easy replacement. The arm rest comes off at the hinge, and removal and replacement of the old holder are easy to see once you have clear access.

Good Luck
