hey guys. my name is vince and i am new to this board. i am tryin to help my dad out because he is the one with the 850. so here is the story. everytime he turns the steerin wheel all the way to the right(and right only)and feeds the throttle, you can hear scrapin sounds comin from the wheel/wheelwell. now we went to the dealer in princeton and spent 1500 dollars fixin it. thinkin it was the breaks that needed to be changed. but the thing that pisses me off is that "the mechanic had road tested the car" or wutever they said, when we got the car bak, the sound did not dissapear, but we shelled out 1500 bucks. so we went back to the dealer and the guy said it was the joints that had to be lubed, and "they went for a testdrive again" my dad got in the car in the parkin lot and tested himselve, sound was still there. no change at all. now we are very pissed, very very pissed beause they lied to us twice about testdrivin the car and was never able to fix the problem. finally the service guy said it could be the heatshield bent, so now our next appointment is the 8th of july, WE DON WANT TO GO BACK, can some one figure out the problem? i live in central jersey btw

Its funny, my 1995 850 does that as well. I'm usually very fussy and everything on my car is as perfect as is practical but I can't say the noise really bothers me. I think its probably one tyre scraping against the plastic wheel arch liner thats all.

Look inside the wheel well at the plastic shield that prevents water from splashing into the engine. Turn the wheels fully left and fully right and inspect the plastic for any type of wear from the tire hitting it when the wheel is turned. The shields sometimes make their way lose and land it the way of the tire when fully turned. There's a small plastic nut that holds these on that could have fallen off (near the front).

sounds like the steering stops need to be lubed. Commmon squealing if dry with full turns to the right or left.
Easy do it yourself.
