my 850 t5 idles at around 900-950rpm is this correct, the manual says it should be 850rpm!!!

there are no ecu codes and the car runs fine otherwise BUT it does idle at about 1100rpm when i start it from cold but returns to 900-950rpm when i drive off

any ideas thanks!!

high idle speed..... dirty IAC or throttle body... 850

How long has it been since you sprayed some carb cleaner through the throttle body and into the idle controller? If you can find some Amsoil PowerFoam its the best cleaner out there for the throttle-body and throttle plate as well as everything else in there. The idle controller gets gummed up every year and needs to be sprayed out to get it clean. If you can't find the PowerFoam the next best thing would be Berryman's Chemtool Spray which you can find at almost any autoparts store or WalMart. The motor should idle at 850 rpms. When the throttle plate gets dirty with varnish and gum it can't close like its suppose to and lets a little air get by. The IAC also gets gummed up and can't close either. Try cleaning it all out and see if that gets it back down where its suppose to be.

That sounds normal, I have a 93 GLT and it does the same.

I also checked my manual and it said the idle speed is non-adjutable. So I asked a mechanic why does it mention the 800 rpm idle, he said this was something to do with 'timing' and that it is set without some vacuum cable connected. Then when they reconnect the cables it idles at 900 950 rpm.

He said, yes its normal.
