Gas Lid Lock 850 1994

I know this is kind of a picky thing especially with all the big stuff that goes out on these 850's, but my lid lock will not active when I lock the doors. I manually lock the car not remote. Occationally, the lock will activate and then get stuck locked. Its not a problem because I pull the cord in the trunk and open the lid. For that matter, the unlock gas tank is not a big issue with me, but I'm just asking. What most likely the problem, some solenod, switch or motor? And is it an expensive and easy thing to fix yourself. I certainly don't want to pay my mechanic a hundred dollars to fix it. Hell, I probbly won't even fit it myself. After 124,000 miles I have bigger things to worry about.

Gas Lid Lock - check grommet 850 1994

One thing to check is - take a real good look in the cavity where the locking pin is located. Two of my 850s had a problem with the rubber grommet that fits around the pin.

I did not see the mis-installed grommet in our base '95 855 until I had the entire assembly removed. (quite a chore!) I straightened out the grommet two years ago, and the door has locked properly since. I could see where the squashed grommet had pushed the pin to one side and caused wear on one side of the hole that the pin fit in to. Evidently, it took 6 years for the lock to jam up!

I found the same problem in our base '95 854.

I straightened the grommets out with a dental probe.
