'Wheel Stops' or 'Ball Joints?' V70-XC70 1999

Am trying to finalize buying that seems in good enough shape, with 39k, from a dealer. My concern is that with hard left or hard right turning (ex: u-turning) I get a groaning/rubbing sounding. The dealer says it's the wheel stops, and that this is a classic design flaw and nothing to worry about. I'm concerned the ball joints are going. Is this a classic issue, and something to stop me from buying this particular V70? Please help, I need to know by tomorrow to buy or die.

Even after greasing there can be some noise with the steering
wheel at full lock (not steering pump noisel some creeks as you
hit small bumps). This is based on my 98 S70 and wifes 95 855.
Just back off from full-lock a small bit and see if it goes
    away.

This site had a picture of the stops that are greased:

It is just a nylon pad (visible to the left) that the sterring
"end" bumps against at full lock. You can stick your head under
the front bumper and easily see them.

have the dealer grease the wheel(steering) stops and take the car for a spin.
If the growling noise is gone you got your answer.

"And if the sound stays its the ball joints?"

No, probably something else as it's not likely that bad balljoints ever cause noise turning and yes, I've replaced many a bad balljoint. Balljoints aren't usually a problem at lower mileage with a '99 V70 BUT if you have ANY doubts, by all means have another shops tech do a safety inspection on the car before signing anything. Many people do that with used cars so it's not an unsual request and if the seller is on the up and up, they'll let you do that. You'll pay a shop an hours labor but that'll give you peace of mind, hopefully.
