Bypass Heater Core 850 1995

My 850 95' just started leaking and am inclinded to bypass the heater core as well.

How did you connect the 5/8" bypass hose? From the two hoses at the firewall?

      Bypass Heater Core 850 1995

      I spoke with a repair shop and they estimated 10.5 hours and another said the dash had to come apart, yet the Haynes manual makes it look like 1.5 hours. I am think of simply bypassing it just in case 10.5 hours looks credible.

        10.5 hours sounds like the evaporator - that's very different than the heater core. The heater core, if leaking, will dump green coolant onto your carpets. The evaporator leaks invisible refrigerant, requiring eventual recharging of the RC-134a coolant.

          Bypass Heater Core 850 1995

          It's the green antifreeze coming out from the drain hose. Fortunately it's dripping on the garage floor rather than the carpet. The repair shop was double-checking the hours quoted with another shop since you are correct about the evaporator effort (which is also another problem area).

          Are you aware of being able to repair the cores since other post indicate leak developing where the aluminum core is attached to the plastic end caps? Possibly using a marine grade epoxy. This is a longshot--

              Well as you said the job was easy - not 10.5 hours, but more like 1.5. Anyway in your previous email you indicated if the core was leaking it should have been on the floorboard. After removing the core, your email started to register since the construction of core should have been straight down rather than the drain tube (a/c condensation?). The green fluid (assumed to be anti-freeze) was coming out the drain tube is now my guess, dye from air condition recharge last year. I wound up putting the original heating core back in and am still stumped about the mystery fluid.
