My 1997 850 glt won't let me put it into gear sometime when i start it up, I have
been needing to turn off the ignition and then try again. my wife just had to sort of force it into drive, and she said the abs and other warning lights are now on .. does this sound familiar to anyone?

    It could be your Microswitch. You can find more info on fixing this common problem at Volvospeed Bay 13. You should be able to override the microswitch by pushing on the override button next the the shifter. I think it's called a shift-lock release button.

    On the other hand it could be your ignition switch. I've read other brickboarders having to change it out to fix this shifting problem. You may want to do a search on this site.
