Replacing driver CV boot 850

My Dad is trying to replace the CV joint boot on the drivers side of my 1995 850 GLT. He tried to expand the clip from the driver side CV joint so he could slide the outer CV joint off of the drive axle but the CV joint won't slide off. All of the grease has been removed and it is clean. Ideas? Thanks!

    Replacing driver CV boot 850

My brother and I did this on his 95 850t I know it seems as though it won't come off but if you put it in a vice and then use needle nose to keep the clip open then take a rubber malet and hit it off that's what the machanic did when we couldn't figure it out. Cost 20 bucks to have it done for us

    Replacing driver CV boot 850

I replaced all 4 boots on my 95 855T a year or so ago. I too found the circlip to be a problem area. I used a type of pliers that had flat noses and expanded when the handles were compressed. My circlip pliers were not up to the pressure of this circlip. I don't know the technical name for them but they worked a lot better then the procedure described in the Haynes manual with a screwdriver. They do mention taping on the cv joint simultaneously to get it off. It really helps to have an extra pair of hands here.

    Good luck.
