rumble whine on '98XC70 V70-XC70 1998

Forgive the ignorance shown in my message. Have a 98 XC70 69K miles. Has developed a rumble/whine up front, noticable above 30mph and get louder as you go faster. Even in neutral you can still hear it (no change at all) Dealer says not wheel bearings. I thought this cannot be drive shat U-joint sinc eit haapeens in neutral. Any thoughts or suggestions?
thanks

This noise is tipical for that model. It is coused by broken engine mount under crank pulley. Worn mount will put l/f axle shaft out of alignment, cousing all kind of noises. Good luck!

Just got my 98 XC back from the dealer repair because of a similar noise i.e., loud groan/rumble. It was the motor and torque mounts. $300 and all is quiet and back to normal.

YA think this would be true for a 99XC with similar noises,,idler wheel replaced, drivers side brace/strap under car tighten up, still a slight ringing like sound when moving????????? Thx

I've got a similar problem on my 2001 XC, but would like help differenciating between drive shaft bearing noise and rear wheel bearing noise. I've got a rumble/moan starting around 30MPH and growing increasingly loud as speed increases. It's not affected by acceleration or deceleration, and does not change when cornering.

What's different in the noise between the two? BTW, I've got 65k miles on the car.
