Another Supid Question 850 1994

Really dumb queston, but does a manal transmission have fluid that needs to be changed? I seem to remember my indy saying no need to ever change it. I have 126,000 miles. Knock on wood my clutch still seems to work fine, no slipping yet. If it does have "transmision fluid should I wait till the clutch needs replaces?

I don't think it is required according to the maintenance schedule.
Factory uses a synthetic gear oil and you should use the factory oil if
you replace it.

just because educated car owners are cooler i must give some auto theory behind this question, ok the primary difference between the fluid in a manual tranni and an automatic is that the automatic fluid is actualy a variant of hydraulic fluid and your manual uses lubrication-type oil to simply keep the gears and related assemblys slick(an automatic tranni uses the fluid to shift via hydralic pressure). both fluids need to be changed every once in a while im not totaly positive on the mileages for either but id think like every 50-60k for an automatic and maybe a little sooner for the manual.

Uhh you can change it if you wish but its really not nessicery. I did it a week ago and replaced the old fluid with Mobil 1 5w30. You need a funnel with a hose on the bottom (ano auto parts store) or be creative. IF you need more details let me know

Um, Im pretty sure that 15w30 is far too light of an oil to use for a manual transmission. You should be using an 80w90 gear oil. You should talk to a Volvo dealer just to double check!!!
