Odometer and Trip Just stopped working!! 850

So just yesterday my odometer stopped working on my 94 850. I have no idea how this happened. Wondering a couple of things.

1) How should I go about fixing this?

2) Is there something I could/should do to certify the milage. My one saving grace is that I had an oil change done 400 miles (and one and a half weeks) or so ago and I have the receipts with the date and milage clearly recorded. this should be helpful in proving that the mileage is fairly accurate (unless somebody argued that I made a dramatic cross country trip in the last week or so). but, is there something else I can do to verify for future buyers that the milage on the odometer is almost accurate?

thanks so much. I appreciate all your help.

So once I get the correct mileage off the computer, how do I go about manually adjusting the mechanical part of the odometer so it matches the computer?

I have about 15k miles to add, so I hope it's easy!

The repair can be done for about $30.00 and it takes less than 2 hours. You can order the replacement gear from www.odometergears.com. The instructions for removing the instrument cluster can be found at www.volvospeed.com/volvo_performance.php. When you have the odometer out, you can adjust the mileage so that it matches what is stored in the ECU.

I did this recently on my 1995 850 and it has worked great ever since.

Your broken odometer gear can be replaced. The ECU does maintain the mileage electronically. See this post for info on how to read it from the diagnostic module: http://www.brickboard.com/AWD/index.htm?id=680941

Your ECU will also tell you the milage on your car. There was a post on it in here a while ago I think, and IPD Im sure has an explination on how to get this from the ECU.

Mine, on the other hand, hasn't been working for months. I'm not sure how a Carfax report gets its info, but mine probably got hit, as I took it to the dealer right after it stopped working (for something else).

If I fix the gear, how can I get the miles corrected? I'd rather have it fixed than have to try to extrapolate the miles for the next owner.

    Thanks for the insight.

This happened on my 850R. It is probably the odometer gear - a real pain in the ass to get to, but fairly simple to replace.
I wrote up an article on my website, http://thurbers.net/tim/volvo.html
which covers this in detail. I hope to post pics one day (i took pics of each stage of the operation). I am just a really busy pre-med undergrad senior with 17 credit hours and a job...
