frozen front caliper - wd-40 while still in place? 850 1993

I'm basically in the same boat as this guy:

My front left dust boot isn't in the right place anymore and my caliper and piston are rusted frozen.

Has anyone tried doing this:

I'm wondering if I can do it with the caliper and rotor in place. Has anyone tried this? What should I be careful of avoiding spraying the WD-40 onto?

thanks in advance

won't work 850 1993

Once the boot comes loose and exposes the piston, the caliper is done for. Replacing a caliper is not a bad DIY job, and I got a remanufactured Volvo OEM caliper from Foreign Autopart for $65. Changeout took me less than an hour working outdoors while listening to the ballgame, with a break for lemonade.

Just be prepared in advance to bleed the brake line afterward - if you don't have a specialized bleeding kit the basic method works just as well. All you need is a bit of tubing, a jar, and the correct brake fluid. (When bleeding, use short travel on the pedal - never allow the pedal to reach the floor.)
