Can anyone tell my why my tranny is slow to shift into overdrive after climbing a hill or after an extended period of acceleration? Thanks in advance for any help.

If your transmission fluid is good and you cannot find (or hear of) a cause, it could be that the transmission is intelligent enough to sense that you might still be on a grade that would cause a downshift.

This would be a situation similar to pulling a trailer which causes Volvo to reccomend staying out of overdrive.

There is a series of longish hills on the way to UMass Amherst that would cause my 740's transmission to shift in and out of overdrive. After a couple of episodes, I would hold the overdrive off or keep the revs down to avoid this situation because, fully loaded, I did not think that the shifty behavior was good for the transmission.

your tranny is probably due for a reseal job , when its hot usually the old seal are unable to do what they are supposed to do ,so you got a loss of pressure inside the transmission , maybe you can check the color and odor of your tranny oil ,,, well its just my opinion
