I'm stationed here in Puerto Rico and went to my local Volvo dealership in order to get a replacement rear speaker for my 97 850 R. I almost died when the dude at the parts department told me that it was going to cost $650.00. I asked him if he was crazy and he told me that it was for the pair. I guess he thought that was going to make it more menageable.

Anyways, is there a replacement speaker that fits in the volvo casing without having to go through major drilling? Or is there a place that has them cheaper that I can check and order over the internet? Your help is appreciated

What's wrong with your original speakers? I thought mine were blown but when I checked them out, it turned out that the small tweeter magnet was dislodged and fell onto the larger woofer magnet. It was a simple matter to epoxy glue the magnet back into place. Geez I saved $650 bucks!!!

I'd give Crutchfield a call or check their website. They will probably be able to hel pfor a lot less $$$.

for $650 you can get an 800W amp, couple of 10-12" boomers and smaller speakers to make it sound great!!!!!! any audio car store will install it!!!

I got a copy of Rene's msg re the Infinity speakers--those are better speakers by far than the factory, especially the Infinity Kappas. Forget my speakers, and deal with him; you'll come out better. In fact, I'd recommend going ahead and replacing the whole set with something like what Rene is selling.

Rear deck, or doors? The deck is not really a problem if you have time to do a little ad hoc gasketing to fit aftermarket speakers, and on the doors, you can disassemble and reassemble the mounts to fit aftermarket speakers. There's a discussion of how to do that here on the board by either Phil Mastmann or Glenn Krejci. Meantime, what size are you looking at? I just took out a good pair of 8 ohm 6 1/2" factory coaxials from the rear doors of my '99 S70. Email if that's what you need. Also check volvoworld for OEM sound system parts
