HELP! 440 clutch gone! Is this going to const me a small fortune? 400

The clutch on my 95 440 hs gone, and the mechanic says that the whole subframe has to come out to change it. Can anyone verify if that is true? I don't have time to go get a repair manula and find out, and if he does what he says will have to be done this will cost me a fortune! Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks.

it can be done via dismantling gearbox only, but it is quite difficult-almost impossible that way.
your mechanic is right-the way he says is more acceptable!

This is true-mine went about 6months ago. Feels so good to drive now, but i was £200 Gbp lighter though!!

Yup.. Although you can do it without removing the subframe. Just as fiddly and time-consuming though, so won't help you much.
